I adore this quote about being a mother. It is amazing how quickly our little ones grow. It seems that they go from newborns to infants, infants to toddlers and in the blink of an eye, they’re all grown up and having families of their own. The images captured at a newborn session in those first few days after birth is such a special and timeless treasure.
“When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.”
How much do you remember about the first few days following the birth of your children? How about the first week? The first month? The truth is that in the whirlwind that is having a new baby at home, so many details and precious moments can be lost. What better way to literally freeze time than with stunning images of a time that would otherwise be lost. These amazing identical twin girls were so fantastic for their newborn session! I barely saw the whites of their eyes they slept so well.
“You are the closest thing I will ever come to magic.”
– Suzanne Finnamore
This lovable little man slept through his entire newborn session. His Grandma and Mommy oooh’ed and ahhh’ed at all of the sweet sleepy poses we managed to get him into. Grandma even had some props of her own (handmade by a colleague) for his photographs. At only 5 days new, he was surprisingly content just enjoying a warm swaddle and a cozy blanket.
“There are places in your heart that you didn’t even know existed until you have a child”
You might never know it judging by this sweet, sleepy baby picture, but Alden was not interested at all in sleeping for his newborn session! At only 4 days new, this little man wanted to hang out and play! Eventually he did drift off to dreamland, but for the most part he was amazingly awake and alert!
The most terrifying day of your life is the day the first one is born. Your life, as you know it, is gone. Never to return. But they learn how to walk, and they learn how to talk, and you want to be with them. And they turn out to be the most delightful people you will ever meet in your life. — Bob, Lost in Translation
Despite the fact that my camera is attached to me almost all of the time, I try not to post baby photos of my own children too often. However, I went looking for a lens cap in the nursery/office when I caught a glimpse of our sleeping baby. I don’t think I’ve ever scrambled to grab my “big” camera so quickly before!
Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.
